Demand for NJ TRANSIT service is growing.
Annual NJ TRANSIT rail ridership has increased by 74% since 1995.
The NEC is a critical part of NJ TRANSIT operations.
NJ TRANSIT trains on seven of eleven rail lines traverse the NEC. Across all lines, 83% of NJ TRANSIT rail riders had journeys that involved some distance on the NEC including riders transferring from other rail lines at Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, and other major terminals.
NJ TRANSIT owns, operates, and maintains several NEC stations also served by Amtrak, including Trenton, Princeton Junction, New Brunswick, Metropark, Newark International Airport, and Newark Penn Station. NJ TRANSIT’s ridership is growing most quickly in markets served by trains to New York Penn Station.
